Happy Day!!

CC made her goal weight this past week at Weight Watchers (applause, applause)  :)    I still have 6.6 lbs. to go!  So we've been very successful.

So how do you get weight loss to be successful?  In my opinion:

1.  First and foremost you must be in the right frame of mind to lose weight.  For years I would tell myself "I want to lose weight" but I never stuck with it or in some cases never started.  You really, really, really want to have to do it.  Sometimes something tragic may happen to get you in that frame of mind or you just might wake up one morning and decide this is it.  It's different for everyone, but if your mind's not there your body isn't going to follow.

2.  You need to find a diet that works for you for a LIFETIME.  That's right, weight loss isn't temporary (which is why so many fail).  I have an entire list of diets on the sidebar to the right - check them out.  See what works for YOU and what you feel you're capable of doing for the rest of your life.  If you happen to come across another that I don't have listed, please comment to this post and I'll get it on the list.

In my particular case, I chose Weight Watchers.  Why?  I know I need a group setting for the support and accountability; plus Weight Watchers doesn't end.  I once did the Curves diet which I did successfully for the 6 weeks it ran; once that stopped so did my diet.  I did the Weigh Down Workshop through church, again was successful for the weeks it ran; once over so was my diet.  Know what you are capable of doing - if you can do online GREAT; if you can do short-term group GREAT again; if you need the long-term, don't be afraid to admit it.

3.  If at all possible find a weight loss buddy.  That's a very important key to CC and my's success, because we have each other to depend on.  But even if you don't have a physical person, online ones can get you through things as well.

4.  Don't sabotage yourself!  I often read boards and hear people say, "Oh well, I'll just start over tomorrow."  Yes, you are going to have weak moments...but never "start over" tomorrow.  You start over at the very next thing to go into your mouth.  Just because you may screw up one meal, doesn't mean you have to screw up the rest for the day.  Refer to number 1 - if your mind is right, those "oh no" moments will be few.

5.  Don't be afraid of your success!  I was recently on the WW boards where people were saying they are offended when someone notices they lost weight and actually are irritated when asked how much they've lost.  Really???  REALLY???  R  E  A  L  L  Y  ????   C'mon, if my success can help another, I say SHARE!  I often find how uneducated people are when it comes to weight loss - they think they have to give up all sweets and junk type food and live off veggies.  Oh not so true.....  I want to discuss Weight Watchers with others and if it can help them achieve their goals - why would that be offensive???

I recently watched the show "Heavy" on A&E and they did an update show on 4 of the participants.  All are still losing weight and in each case they are involved with helping others lose.  I found that very inspiring.

6.  Weigh and measure those foods!  Don't guesstimate sizes.

7.  Treat yourself now and then - don't overdo it, but you do deserve a treat every once and a while.

CC just called to give me the name of the place we ate lunch at on Saturday that had the heavenly grilled cheese and tomato soup (yeah, she finds my love for that extremely humorous).  It's called The Texas Lunch.  If you're ever in downtown Chambersburg, PA you really need to stop there!

This & That

Strat's Garden got a mention over at Jim Not Mike as the runner up for pulling traffic to his site.  We came in second to Kim .  So let's all set a goal to be NUMBER ONE next month.  Click Jim's site from here everytime you visit!!  And a personal note to Jim:  Yes Lucy does play well with other dogs, she's a wrestler though - we're working on that!!

Saturday CC and I went out in all the rain and wind to thrift store shop.  I got a few things and CC got many good deals!  For lunch we stopped at a little diner in Chambersburg (can't remember the name - CC help!).  Not weight watchers friendly, we decided on grilled cheese and tomato soup guesstimating the point values.  We probably guesstimated low....but whatever the point value it was like eating heaven!  We felt a little guilty...

Last night CC and I went to the movies to see "Hanna"...ummm...yeah......don't even ask.

Lucy is adjusting well and the household is adusting to her:

We've had a few accidents but that's been mostly do to us not paying attention.  For the most part she's perfect!

I'm so very excited because I'm thinking of this:

I booked the hotel this week and the confirmation arrived on Friday!

This is the little hotel we stay at and our room will be the very top floor on the right!  Course we don't go until the end of August but it gives me something to look forward to!  Funny thing is that it's costing more to board the dogs then it is for our hotel - go figure!

Last year was the first time in several years that we didn't get to go.  It was a big bummer to us, but nothing is stopping us this time!

Laughing Cow Cheeses

I just love Laughing Cow Cheese! I mean how can you not like it? For the longest time I used it as a spread on crackers. At only 1 p+ per wedge, you can't go wrong with it.

I came across a posting at the Weight Watcher boards and loved this Laughing Cow idea! Buy the French Onion flavored cheese and you have the perfect dip for you favorite low p+ chip! I used mine with 10 Special K sea salt chips. YUMMY!!

But what I'm dying to try are two recipes from Green Lite Bites:

Single Serve Nacho Cheese

And the new one she has up:

Cheesey Beef Taco Wrap

You can't go wrong with Laughing Cow and hey, you can't go wrong with Roni's Recipes either!!  And if you enjoy Roni's recipes, go to Amazon and check out her cookbook:

Today I've been lazy...but a little productive!

Since warm weather is upon us I decided to check out that part of my closet.  I have many tops that were very tight last year...this year they are too big!  So I hit Kmart and bought some different colored t-shirts until I could rebuild my spring wardrobe.  I then made a stop at Goodwill and bought some more tops, a pair of capris and a pair of Calvin Klein jeans! In the meantime, I need to box up some more clothes.

I had an interesting conversation with a co-worker from one of the other divisions yesterdays.  She told me she was a life time member of Weight Watchers and we had an enjoyable talk.  When I told her of the "issues" I have within my own office and the offer of my "fat clothes" that I never made...she became mad - "Why should you have to hide your achievements to make them happy?"  I agree - why do I?

Weight loss is always an ongoing struggle in all directions.

A Good Appointment

I had one of the best doctor's appointments EVER today!!

This was my first time back since starting Weight Watchers.  My doctor has been after me for YEARS to lose some weight and I just kept gaining.  So I knew a 37 lb. loss would be very impressive to him.  I wasn't disappointed, he was very impressed.

I was told I have the blood pressure of an 18 year old.  6 months ago I was borderline diabetic - today my levels are normal.  My thyroid medicine kept increasing, today it was stabilized.  My cholesterol had been high, today it was normal.

I definately could not have asked for anything better!!

Well Lucy had her Vet appointment and it was determined that she is 6-7 months of age.  But we had already figured she was not a young puppy!  Adjustment period is getting easier!

My weight loss is at a total of 37 lbs.!  I'm very excited to go to my doctor's appointment tomorrow - should be interesting.

A reader asked me about my cat Mickey.  Mickey is still around, though at the old house.  They've made him a house on their porch so that's where he is staying.  I do need to go get him and have his shots updated though.  So I guess we're sharing the cat!!  But it seems best for Mickey...who by the way will be 13 years old next month!

And the speech I heard Kevin Spacey give on Monday is available here:

A Kevin Spacey-ing I Will Go...

Yesterday I had the opportunity to go to see Kevin give his speech in support of the Arts in Washington DC. A really big big bonus to this was that the tickets were FREE!!

I took the whole day off work (called in today too - way too tired)and took the Metro in and enjoyed the majority of the day at The National Mall and Smithsonian. It turned out to be a gorgeous day - 70 degrees and sunny. When I got way too tired, I took the Metro over to the Kenndey Center. At the stop, there is suppose to be a shuttle to the KC, but I couldn't find it. So I decided to walk....the signage was really bad and eventually had to use my cell phone navigation to find it- lol!! I then just spent the time in there, out of the heat (I did get sunburned) and read a book on my Kindle.

Around 4:00-ish, I texted Tricia (from the Legacy list whom I was meeting for the very first time)that I was there and about where I was. She texted right back that she was only 3 stops away. Hmmm...well she too apparently couldn't find those shuttles and had to walk over. But eventually we met up, got aquainted and had a really good time!!

Around 5:00-ish we went to wait to pick up our tickets and then get in line to the theatre. While in line I saw Rosemary (a fan I'd met in NY during the Moon run)and had a nice chat with her as well. Always good to meet up with other fans.

Then the theatre doors opened......

The whole front theatre was reserved so we couldn't sit in the front. Which was a shame cause all those seats never filled up. But we were in the next section and the theatre was small.  While we got settled, Tricia notices Dana Brunetti (Kevin's business partner) over to the side not that far from us. She yells at him "Dana!" and waves, he waves back. She then yells at him for an autograph. He seemed a little overwhelmed and confused with this "Why would you want my autograph?" She yells that he's an Oscar Nominated Producer! He seemed embarrassed, but walked over and took her ticket and pen; he then told her he couldn't sign with her pen and he'd be right back. When he returned he hands it back and says "There's an extra signature on there for you." He had had Kevin sign her ticket as well!!! It was very exciting!!

It seemed forever until Kevin got on the stage. He talked for 45 minutes, which was heaven. He told of how Jack Lemmon had been his mentor (did his Jack Lemmon impression also)and the importance of sending the elevator back down and of course how important arts and culture is. I love to hear this man speak!

We didn't get to hang around to see if he showed up to mingle after the show but we DID find those shuttles to get back to the Metro Station!!

Here's the one photo I have that actually turned out:

And some of Dana:

The person in this photo with Dana is Hamish - Kevin's personal assistant.
