A Lazy Day Off Work

Today's breakfast consisted of 2 eggs, sauteed mushrooms & onions, pumpkin smoothie and a banana all for a total of 6 pp!  Not bad at all.  For lunch I'm going to broil a chicken breast with some mushrooms & onions as well.

Weekends are still my killers and I am so glad I've been invited to no picnics today (way too hot anyway).

Happy Memorial Day Everyone!!  Stay Safe!!  And Thank You to all the service people out there!

Here I Go AGAIN!!!

I'm going to lay it out there....I've gained 11 lbs.!!  I've been off track since last October and clothes are starting to get tight.  So.....CC and I headed back to Weight Watchers last night.

We have continued to stop in on Thursdays and CC had continued with her monthly lifetime required weigh-ins (remember I got frustrated and quit); but now I'm back hoping to get these pounds off.  CC is still doing quite well by the way.

We were amazed that most of the people on our meeting night were unfamiliar - where was everyone???  But the meeting went by uneventful but I was so very glad that I weighed-in and stayed for the meeting.  And though I hate thinking I'm starting at a holiday mind is where it needs to be to lose weight.  That's the biggest hurdle!!

I'm going to do some changing around with the blog this weekend.  In case you haven't noticed we are a .com again!  But the blogger link will bring you directly to it so you don't have to update anything.  This time around I just bought the domain so I wouldn't have to move the blog once again, that always messes the older posts up.  I also own the .net (got them both for $1.98 - thanks to Roni for the tweet on that discount code!!) but I haven't figured out how to get the .net to point to the .com, that'll be a weekend project as well!!

Productive Weekend

Friday, CC and I spent the evening on her deck eating pizza and downing 2-1/2 bottles of wine.  We also took Wally for a walk......nice evening!

Yesterday  morning we went to yard sales.  It was supposedly a neighborhood deal, but apparently a lot of neighbors chose not to participate.  It also was an uppity type neighborhood so everyone was so concerned someone would park or walk on their lawns or better yet just in front of their house on the PUBLIC street.  People are so weird sometimes.  ANYWAY....

CC did very well in regards to her son's college apartment next year:  full size mattress/box spring $20; desk $10.  Both were in good condition.  I was able to score hubby a hard sided suitcase he's been wanting for $1 and a wine rack for $5.  But the best thing I bought were sofa cushions for $5.  Yep you read that right - sofa cushions!

As the title of my blog states...The Dog Ate My Sofa.  That should actually be plural Dogs.  Anyway, because we live with 3 dogs and 2 cats we shy away from brand new furniture or else it wouldn't stay brand new for long.  A year or so ago I scored this at a thrift store for $125:

Yep $125 for all three pieces (we no longer have the dog pen in the corner by the way).
Over time though, the dogs have taken a toll on the sofa and chair cushions.  We've flipped them, covered them, but recently they've just looked bad and options were low.  So although I'm keeping an eye out for a cheap sofa at thrift stores and yard sales (and I could care less if they match or not...I'm that sort of person) while at the yard sales yesterday, I came across 3 sofa cushions in like new condition so I bought them; when I told the guy selling them that my dogs had eaten my cushions...he told me that their dog had eaten the arms on their sofa - thus the reason for spare cushions - lol!!  So I came home and did this:

Perfect solution until I find another couch!

I'm always excited when I find something worth buying!  And am so glad that someone thought to save the cushions instead of ditching them with the whole sofa.

Very Disturbing....

If you know me personally, then you know I'm a big animal lover and that I truly condemn abuse of any kind.  Animals are so loyal and trusting - how can you abuse that?

Yesterday, my hubby shared on FB a posting on a dog rescue case in California.  I can't seem to find any information on the owners nor how these dogs ended up being rescued...but I certainly hope the owners have been arrested or shot.....either would be too good for them.

Anyway, when I saw the post on my FB timeline...I just caught a glimpse of the photo and decided to remove it so I wouldn't have to read it...but the photo, appearing small on the timeline, kind of sucked me in and I had to see what the hell was growing out of that poor puppy's ear!  Some kind of weird looking it wasn't.

Here's a link to an article online:   Dogs Severely Infected    STOP!!!  DON'T TOUCH THAT LINK!!!  Before you click there you should be warned - the images are VERY DISTURBING.  I can't get them out of my mind, I had a terrible time sleeping.....I keep going to the FB page for updates but make sure I don't scroll down far enough to see the's just oh so wrong in so many ways!  If you choose to click that link, what you will see is not a weird looking tumor coming out of poor puppies ears....but a huge mound of ....TICKS!!!  Yes, hundreds possible thousands!!!

The mother and her pups were infested with ticks.  From what I've read from updates all ticks have been removed from the bodies and now they are dealing with the ears.  The dogs are on antibiotics because lord knows what kind of tick diseases they may be getting (next to being malnourished by the way) and the process is extremely slow because...well ticks have to be removed one by one, very carefully to make sure you don't leave the head behind.  Anything you've ever read - vaseline, oil, matches, etc...- are old wives tales...there's only one way to do it safely.  There is a small chance deafness could result from this...let's face it, if the ticks look that bad from the outside...what do you think is going on down the ear canal?  Until the ticks are removed and you can even see the canal..a Vet can't do a good cleaning.

The Good News from this, is many donations were received and the Mom and her Pups vet care is taken care of.  The rescue asks that you send additional donations to your local humane society or rescue to help other animals.

I'm so looking forward to seeing these puppies without the ticks....and seeing the owners put away for a very long time!

I've Been To The Moon And Back...

A re-posting of a special event in my life that happened 5 years ago today!  I met Kevin Spacey!!

Thursday, May 10th I went to the stage door with the gift bag. I wanted to be up front at the barricade in order to give it to him personally. The one Security Guard saw me and asked me who I was giving it to and I told him Kevin. He explained that Kevin is unable to accept gifts that are not cleared through security first and I wasn't able to do that. However, he said he would be more than happy to take the bag backstage to the room where things are inspected. So, of course, I handed it over to security. When he came back out, I explained that it was a one-of-a-kind specially made gift and I really wanted him to have it. The Security guard admitted that he himself had already "peaked" in the bag and I needn't worry. In the meantime another security guard came out with a thumbs up that the bag had cleared.

At the Saturday (May 12th) matinee after the stage door crowd started to thin out, I approached the man and said "Can I ask a favor?" He said "Sure" without looking up from his signing. I said "Will you have your picture taken with the driving mr. spacey bear?" He got this cute little grin on his face, looked up and said "I'd be delighted." He took the bear, read his button ("I was mooned on Broadway"), laughed, posed and handed him back saying "I hope he has a safe journey home."

What A Guy!!!

That same day after dinner....we went back to the stage door to wait for Kevin. We noticed the one Security guard carry a few items to Kevin's car - I immediately saw my gift bag and got excited!!! What a slice of heaven - he apparently likes the gift as he's taking it with him!!! Joanne said that I would probably be receiving a thank you card soon!!!

Well, when Kevin came out the stage door HE WAS WEARING THE SHIRT!!! I was right there and said "That's my shirt!!" He said "Did you get me this shirt?" I said "Yes" He said "I LOVE this shirt!!!" So I asked him to pose for a picture, which he willingly did...then I asked for one of he and I, which he replied "Sure, come here..." I was able to cross the barricade to HIS side and put my arms around him as he did me!!! While Joanne took an enormously loooooooong time to take the picture and I've always greatly appreciated that!!

What a night...........

Life With CC

For those who don't remember the post from many, many posts ago....  CC stands for Cousin Chris.  I know quite a few Chris' and to keep things simple, I came up with names so everyone would know which Chris I was talking about.  In this case CC is the Chris which, of course, is my cousin!  I bring this up because Chris went with me to a  31 Party at Kim's  house.  Because I always refer to Chris as CC, they assumed that was actually the name she goes by - lol!!!!  Not true, she's only CC here - even I call her Chris in real life!

Anyway.....CC and I do a lot together and spend lots of time together.  She's my BFF!  Thursday nights are always regular and that involves Weight Watchers, popcorn and Rutter's.  Rutter's has become our dinner on Thursday nights.

About 2 weeks ago, CC was in a car accident.  Some young girl pulled out in front of her.  CC was in the car they had just purchased for her son.  Though the damage wasn't too bad, it did require some fixing.  The car was dropped off and they had a rental for a few days.

This past Thursday, CC and her hubby aka: Sparky went to the garage to pick up their car.  I arrived at her house before they got there and proceeded to take care of Wally (their dog).  CC called to ask if I could pick them up; seems the car key refused to turn in the ignition (wasn't an issue prior to being at the garage) and the garage was now closed.

No issue.  I was at her house so I told her to give me a little extra time getting there.  I then went out and tried to call Wally inside....apparently he has selective hearing, and my voice was selected to "ignore".  Then a rabbit bounced across the yard, and he bounced across after it!  Fortunately he's on a lead, so I ended up reeling him in like a fish!  Got him in, helped myself to two Oreos (don't judge me), locked everything up and went to my car.

Did I mention this was an extremely humid day?  It was hot.  It took me about 15-20 minutes to get to the garage and my car's AC did nothing but blow hot air.  On top of that, the gas gage was going through it's "I think I'll say empty instead of 1/2 a tank like I have", oh and the "I think the back hatch is open even though it isn't".  Grrrrr......

Anyway, I pick them up.  We're all grumbling about our cars.  It's hot, no one is happy!  We get back to CC's house and hop in her Blazer.  Because we're now running late, we decided to forgo Weight Watchers and popcorn for the evening.  So we just headed to Rutter's as CC needed gas anyway.  She puts $55.00  in the car.  And then......the car won't start!  This has happened before and according to Sparky we're to let it sit for 10 minutes and then try again.

No problem.  We went inside and got our food; which took 10-15 minutes.  Get back in the car...still won't start.  Here we are stuck at pump #11.  CC got out and popped the hood and did some messing around that she's seen Sparky do.  No help.

Now despite being two women with their hood up sitting at a gas pump...and the place being extremely you think anyone offers help????  Nope!  Eventually, an older couple from Michigan tried to help to no avail.  After a third call to Sparky, he answers.

Sparky advises we are to wait 10 minutes exactly and try again.  We did, no go.  Call Sparky back and he agrees to come help.  Despite it only being about a 10 minute drive...Sparky apparently chose the scenic route to Rutter's.

Now it's just funny...."We are protesting the price of gas at pump #11"  "We come here every Thursday to pick up men"  You had to laugh, otherwise we'd cry!

Sparky arrives and we move the car to a parking space and he proceeds to do his thing.  Nothing works.  He advises us to call AAA.  CC does and advises Sparky that he can leave.  So here we are sitting we have our dinner in the car.  There's a storm coming.  What a night!

Course nothing would be complete without photos!  So here we go:

Stuck At Rutter's

"Can we get some help here?" (apparently not)

The view from Rutter's parking lot.

Sparky to the rescue - NOT!

Waiting for AAA, and it's getting darker.

 Storm coming.

Nosey guy at pump 15.  Hey buddy, if you're so curious offer some help!

Nighttime at Rutter's.

Tow truck arrives!

Let's give a hurray for Abe's!

Abe!  Okay, technically we don't know if this was Abe or not but he was a cutie! And since we were expecting beer gut and butt crack; we were pleasantly surprised.  What a welcome site for a bad night!  We even got to ride in the cab with him back to CC's house.
Very nice guy!

Into the garage!

The mechanic at work fixed my AC (only needed freon);  gas gage decided it worked and the back hatch is no longer open.

Despite a new starter, CC's blazer still has an issue.  And the car that was being fixed at the garage needs a new ignition switch!
