I've decided to share some "unofficial" Weight Watcher tools that some may find helpful.

The first is WWDiary which is an android app.  It's a free app with an option for a paid subscription at $1.00 a month.  It can be used with the new Points Plus or the Old Points System. With the paid version you have the option to scan barcodes.  The barcode database is extremely small for the scanner, but you can add items and then they are available to you.  As people add - the database will become much larger.  I highly recommend this app.

WW ScanCalc is an android barcode scanner that was out before the official Weight Watchers one.  It also is free, and I've never had it give me wrong point values.  It only does Points Plus value, not the old point system.

Fast Food Calories & Points is a paid android app that gives both the Points Plus and Old Point values plus other nutritional information for a huge selection of Fast Food and Chain Restaurants.  It's constantly being updated and I even think they offer a second app with additional restaurants on it.  Very handy to have around.  Love It!

Noom Cardio Trainer isn't Weight Watchers related but it is a nice little handy app to have for walking.  Offered in both a free and paid version - I've really learned to like it for my walks!

This & That; Here & There

The Apple Cinnamon Refrigerator Oatmeal has been the best so far.  This one is really yummy.  The only changes from the original recipe was that I used Chobani Apple Cinnamon Yogurt instead of plain and Splenda instead of Honey.  It was very good!

Rather than purchasing the mason canning jars that are recommended at The Yummy Life; I found these in the same aisle at Wal-Mart:

They're plastic and run the same sizes as the mason jars - they're perfect!!  So I bought 2 sizes!!

Tonight I created my own refrigerator oatmeal - PUMPKIN!!  I love pumpkin and since it's a vegetable, I can get a serving of that in!  I just took the Apple Cinnamon Recipe and used 1/4 cup canned pumpkin in place of the applesauce and vanilla greek yogurt in place of the apple/cinnamon kind.  I'll give a review tomorrow on whether it was any good or not.  (Also, I used splenda instead of honey).

Looking forward to lunch tomorrow with Polt - we have Mental Health training in the morning (4 hours worth - whew....) so we're going for a leisurely lunch afterwards!  Don't know where yet, but weigh-in is tomorrow so I must be good!

I noticed that today marks 20,000 hits since the start of my blogging - WOW!!!  Thanks!!

This & That

The Banana Cocoa Refrigerator Oatmeal was not to my liking.  I think it was the Greek Yogurt.  I'm not found of plain greek yogurt.  I used flavored greek in the others but plain in that one.  I'm going to try it with vanilla flavored.

Despite a huge amount of eating last week, I managed to maintain - which was great!  If you can't lose, maintaining always beats gaining!!

I think I'm becoming really b*tchey at work.  Things are just beginning to annoy the people that call in at the last minute to take off ALL THE TIME, or the people who are never ON TIME.  Perhaps my work ethic is different than theirs but really am I asking to much???

Have you seen this video - I LOVE IT - so romantic!!

New Breakfast Idea!

You know me, I'm all about keeping things new and different when it comes to dieting.  If I get bored I tend to overeat.  On the Weight Watchers forum someone asked what everyone aet for breakfast and someone said "refrigerator oatmeal".

I did a search and came across The Yummy Life and there it was Refrigerator Oatmeal !  Yesterday morning I had the Blueberry Maple which was excellent; this morning I had Raspberry Vanilla which was good but I probably won't have it again - it just wasn't as exciting as the Blueberry one.  Tomorrow morning I'm trying Banana Cocoa.  I also want to try the Banana Peanut Butter and Apple Cinnamon.  If you're worried about Chia Seeds (or can't find them) don't worry you can make them without.  I was able to find Chia Seeds in the Health Food section of a large Grocery Store.  I also want to try her Oatmeal Smoothies - they look GREAT!!

And thus, there's another website for the side bar!!

Yesterday was a CC-less day.  I know it may be hard for any of you to believe....but there are days we just don't see each other-lol!!

Anyhow, I went grocery shopping in places I normally don't shop - M&K Market, Kline's Market - both little grocery places and then to Glenwood's which is an Amish run market (I ran into Mama Polt there) located in an old roller rink.  And since I was close to Greencastle, I went on to Sunnyway (a larger grocery store) and got some chicken gizzard at the deli.  I LOVE chicken gizzards and hadn't had them in a really long time.

After that I watched two movies on Netflix - "The Rum Diary" with Johnny Depp (CC and I never went to see this as it looked terrible, HOWEVER, it is a really good movie) and then "Gifted Hands-The Ben Carson Story" which was about the Johns Hopkins Doctor that was the first to successfully separate twins conjoined at the head (22 hour surgery).  It was part about the twins and the other part was on his life...he had every disadvantaged possible but grew up to the the head of the pediatric neurology department at Johns Hopkins. It was an EXCELLENT movie.

Other than that, I did nothing at all!!

Let's Try The New Place For Dinner!!

A new restaurant opened in downtown Waynesboro, PA.  We decided to go tonight.  It's called Christine's Cafe and is located where the John Wallace Restaurant use to be.

The place is rather "fancy" but you can dress casual (jeans and such) which was okay for us as we're jeans kind of people!  Anyway, we go in and sit down.  There's a guy providing live music.  The place seems busy but there are a few empty tables, so they weren't packed.

We're handed a menu.  Not a whole lot of choices and prices are a little higher than we like. I also notice that it doesn't tell you what sides come with the meal, if any at all. But we're there and decide to give it a try.  The waitress asks what we would like to drink.  I order a diet coke, hubby orders a frappe.  My diet coke arrives.  She takes out orders; I ask about light salad dressings; she informs me they have none.  I decide on a vinaigrette.  We music is becoming rather annoying.

About 15 minutes after we arrive, another couple comes in and sits at the table behind us. A few minutes later, hubby decides to help drink my diet coke as his frappe seems to be in the land of the missing.  He drinks, I drink and I then realize that the couple that came in after us are finishing their salads.

Wait a minute......  we ordered our salads before they even came in and I've yet to see them.  Plus hubby's frappe never has arrived.  We've been there almost a 1/2 hour and all we have to show for it was ONE diet coke.  I also notice that the waitress apologized to 2 other tables that apparently had been waiting for their dinners for a length of time.

We got up and left.  Didn't tell them we were leaving.  Didn't really care.

Went to The Velvet Cafe and they were more than happy to serve us even though we arrived 10 minutes before closing!

***And no the photo isn't ours...a co-worker sent me that on FB***

Weight Watchers Information

As I suspected.....I had a gain at weigh-in last night.  Only 2 ounces which isn't bad considering some of my choices last week.

Several things were discussed that didn't seem to get any straight answers.  So I'll explain it here....

Everyone repeat this with me:

"The Recipe Builder Is For Multi-Serving Recipes"

I can't understand why this is very hard for everyone to grasp.  Someone in the group said that they prepared themselves a serving of 3 types of fruits - strawberry, blueberry, raspberry - mixed together.  When they inputted it into the recipe builder it gave a point value of 6!!  If fruit is free, how can that be?????
Even sadder.....the leader had no answer for her.

Please let me explain....the Recipe Builder does not build by the point value of the food; it builds by the nutritional label.  This is why when you add fruit to the recipe builder, it assigns a point value to the fruit.

Oh thought fruit was 0 points????  Fruit is only 0 points because Weight Watchers is telling you that you do not have to count points for fruit.  However, if you would see a nutritional label for fruit and calculate it like you do other food - it would have a point value to it.

That being said.....just because something is 0 points doesn't mean you should go into overload eating it.  Just keep in the back of your head that technically those fruits do have points to them, so too many may add on the weight.

Change For The Better

While going through some photos the other night I came across this:

That's me back in 2007 in NYC after Kevin's play A Moon For The Misbegotten (that's Ginger and JoJo in the photo with me BTW).  I was totally shocked when I saw myself!!

The strange thing is...that I still see myself that way.  It doesn't matter how much weight I've lost or what size I'm wearing, I always see myself as overweight.  It's a flaw I think most overweight people have.

Today, a few photos popped up on Facebook from the Pride Parade last Saturday.. I assume that this photo was taken by Polt because I see Travis & Paul off to the left.  It's a photo of CC, Me and Josh:

As soon as I saw the photo, I thought - Wow, I Look So Thin!!  LOL!!!  And comparing it to the top photo?  Yes I Do!!

I'm expecting a gain tomorrow at weigh-in as I was a little off plan today and that's too close to weigh-in for overeating...but after comparing these photos, I feel so much better!

Yesterday was DC Pride Parade!  You may ask why I attend since I'm not gay.  Well I go in support of my many friends that are, it's so much fun and there is DANCING COWBOYS!!  Enjoy!

I'm So Bummed......

I'm so very bummed that I'll Have Another had to drop out of the Belmont Race today, thus ending the chance to be the first Triple Crown Winner in 34 years.

I'm probably not as bummed as the owner & trainer of the horse is...but I'd rather he dropped out than break a leg while racing.  Glad that at least the owner & trainer were smart enough not to be greedy and run him anyway.

I'm Happy and Mad All At The Same Time

My first weigh-in since being back at Weight Watchers was last week and resulted in a 1/2 pound loss.  Not great, but it was a loss and considering I wasn't totally "on plan" the whole week...I'll take it!  My weigh-in this week showed a 1.8 lb. loss - HURRAY!!  I was totally on plan and well it worked...brings me back to the quote:

"If you kind of do it, it kind of works.  If you really do it, it really works!"

Since CC and I have been back at Weight Watchers, we've noticed many new faces.  Some long timers have been missing and our group "star pupil" has been in the land of the missing.  We've been somewhat concerned.  Fortunately one of the long timers showed up last night and told us what had been going on with the "star".

The "star" is an older woman who has lost 150 lb. on Weight Watchers.  Her doctor told her she was the only person he's ever met that has lost a whole person!  She's ready to help anyone out that is struggling.  She's great and very inspiring!  But apparently not according to Weight Watchers........

After making Lifetime, "star" applied for a job with Weight Watchers.  She passed the online interview, passed the phone interview, and proceeded on to the one-on-one interview.  Whomever the Weight Watcher's "biggie" was decided that she wasn't suitable for Weight Watchers because she had upper arm jiggle!

Upper Arm Jiggle - you know, that extra skin that hangs when you lose weight?  Since "star" is a big exerciser as well, what is left hanging isn't going to go away on it's own.  It's there to stay or is going to need to be surgically removed - not something everyone can afford.  And to be honest, I've never noticed her loose skin....

Let's face it...we're not all Jennifer Hudson here; nor are we all young adults.  "star" is in her 60's and her body isn't going to respond in the same way a young person's will.  She's lost 150 lbs.!  She no longer has to take the 6 or more medications she was on!  Isn't that inspiring????

Apparently not according to Weight Watchers standards...they want young, thin, well fit looking people working for them.    Rather than providing "reality", they'd rather provide "we want you to believe you'll look like this young girl".  I have to give Weight Watchers a big - FOR SHAME!!

And because of this incident...."star" has stopped attending meetings, gone into a depression, and has gained 25 lbs. back!  Must give another big - FOR SHAME - to Weight Watchers!!

People who are overweight and have lost, always see the faults that remain - it's not necessary to point it out.  I myself have stomach flab - but I'd rather have that, then be where I was when I started!  And yes, it is the one thing that mars my success for myself - I have a hard time seeing past it - but if someone else pointed it out, I'd be mortified, upset and would probably stress eat!

I'm hoping we can get her back to the group and not let a Weight Watchers "biggie" black mark what our group stands for - SUPPORT through the thick and thin.  Hey, we're all there for the same reason!

So in the future Weight Watchers...rather than tell someone they can't have a job because they don't fit an "image".....just say "It was nice meeting you, and we'll let you know."

Tomorrow CC, Josh, Polt and I (and 2 others I haven't met yet) are heading to DC for the Pride Pride.  I've gone with Polt a few times and it's always so much fun!  Pictures will be coming.

Change Is Good!

My normal weekday breakfast consists of instant oatmeal, non-fat milk, coffee and a banana.  Lately I've had a ho-hum feeling about that plus for some reason it doesn't keep me full until lunch anymore.

Today I did a switcheroo...I had a Thomas' Blueberry Bagel Thin with Weight Watchers Reduced Fat Cream Cheese, non-fat milk, coffee and a banana.  It has really kept me full and it was so nice of a change.  I'm looking forward to it for tomorrow!

Lunches have been a little bland as has dinners.  Today I'm opting for a sandwich (rather than last night's leftovers) and a salad; tonight I'm looking at a new Weight Watchers recipe Beef, Bacon & Mushroom Stew that I got from their site - I'm doing it in the crockpot rather than stovetop so hopefully everything will be alright!  May buy noodles to go with it.

If I'm going to keep up with this "lifestyle change"...I need some new things!

Sometimes change is good.

Busy, Busy....

On Friday I spent the day with CC and Josh helping make dog treats and cake pops to sell at the yard sale the next day.  It was a long day.....

Saturday was the yard sale.  Cake pops were very popular and someone even asked if we had a website!  I can't take much credit there, CC and Josh were the creators of those and did all the work.  I'm going to need to learn the icing portion of this for when Josh is at college.  Anyway they were a huge hit and we're looking further into that option.  The Dog treats picked up in the afternoon and that was encouraging as well.  Our Yard Sale items didn't do so well.  Why is it that everyone else can sell an item way too expensive, and I can have the exact same item much lower priced and can't sell?  What's with that???  Later in the day, CC and I went to the movies (surprising isn't it - lol).

The Yard Sale was a community one and our space was next to some very nice people.  One of them sold Beijo Bags and I'm totally obsessed with purses!!  So.....  you know what I bought right?  I bought The Diva in chocolate.  The bags are very nice and roomy without being HUGE.  Only a woman could design the perfect purse!  They're are a variety of styles, colors, prices, etc...  Sold at home parties and events - you need to check them out!  I can't wait to get it!!!

Today hubby and I are doing some much needed yard work...beautiful day for it too!!

This & That

Though the weather looks bad...I have the day off, so it'll be a good day regardless!  Today CC and I are planning on our yard sale tomorrow in Mont Alto, PA.  It's a community thing.

At this week's weigh-in I had lost 1/2 a pound!  Not bad considering I fell off the plan way too many times during the week.  I must get better at that.  No more birthdays at work please.  Weekends seem to do me in...really need to get on track there.
