It Came and It Went!

Yep, we were in the hurricane!  It wasn't considered a hurricane by the time it hit our area but we were in one of the affected areas.

Fortunately - we didn't flood, we didn't lose electricity and other than lots of rain and high winds we managed very well.  I feel bad for those areas that really got hit!

Tomorrow we are heading to Johns Hopkins for hubby's gall bladder surgery....

Movie Review Thursdays - Paranormal Activity 4

I’m going to try to do a movie review weekly.  Movie reviews will contain spoilers – so don’t say you weren’t warned.

See the little kid standing in the driveway in the middle of the night?  See him suddenly look up at the window as though he knows he’s being watched?  Creepy with a capital “C”.  Watch it again….great, huh?  Be glad you saw it here as it never happens in the movie.

I’m going to be honest.  The Paranormal Activity movies have not been favorites of mine.  I anxiously waited for one of my local theatres to get the first movie.  CC and I ate dinner at The House of Kobe, had drinks at Funkstown Tavern, then headed to the theater.  Nothing happened in this movie until the very end, but by the time it was happening – the movie was over.  What was all the rave about with this movie???  It sucked big time!

But it generated enough hoopla to bring a Part 2.  Again, some creepy scenes, but nothing really happens.  Another disappointment.

By Part 3 they kind of had gotten it right.  They went back when the two sisters were little girls and showed where the whole thing began.  Nothing is creepier in horror movies than little kids.  Still left some questions, not a totally great movie but it is the best of the three.

Now Part 4 has arrived.  If you’re unfamiliar with these movies they are all done as if they are home movies.  Think Blair Witch style (which by the way is another terrible movie) and you’ll understand what I’m talking about.  The people either have cameras set up in certain areas of the house running non-stop or someone is constantly walking around filming everything they do (because we all do this).

The Bad

(shaking head)….Where do I begin?

I should of known that when my one cousin posted on FaceBook what a piece of crap this movie was that I should of avoided it big time (she tends to like everything, even crappy movies); but CC and I like making our own opinions, so last night we headed for dinner and then to the theater to see Part 4.

Do you like watching paint dry?  Well, if you do then you’ll love this movie!  Yep, that’s what it was like.  A whole lot of potential here, but nothing really happens.  You just keep sitting and watching and waiting for it – but it never comes.  Leaves many, many questions…..

1.         Who is Robbie?  Where did he come from?  What happened to him?  One minute he’s a big part of
the film, the next it is like he never existed (oh who am I kidding, he just was gone like he never was there in the first place).

2.         Lots of nothing being recorded – maybe a few things.  These films are reviewed, questioned, but nothing further.  Then things pick up a little, there’s some creepy things happening on film now, but no one bothers to review these, so no one knows what is going on.

3.         Seriously, you take the camera with you everywhere????  You see your brother and Robbie walk across the street to Robbie’s house – you actually are filming them as they do this.  You go after them with the camera, no one answers the door, you let yourself in.  Robbie and his mother live here?  All the furniture is covered up.  You don’t find that strange???  Apparently not.

4.         At some point we discover that Wyatt is really Hunter (the baby missing since Part 2).  He was adopted to this family.  Really???  Why???  How???  I question this because; quite clearly on video in Part 2 – Katie kills the parents, picks up Hunter and walks away with him.  Neither has been seen since.  At what point did Katie hand him over to an adoption agency?  Even if she just left him in a safe haven to be makes no sense.  The demon possessed her as he wanted Hunter.  Why give him up at all?  Raise him in some unknown location until he’s at the age the demon needs him to be.  This whole part makes no sense what-so-ever.     And HELLO – he’s a missing child, that’s national news – didn’t anyone check this out?

5.         Any time you are out of range of the cameras, you conveniently have the hand held one with you – even when you’re somewhat creeped out.      Note:  according to the "all knowings" at the imdb board; this filming was more likely being done with a cell phone.  I can buy that, but still you have the video app running ALL THE TIME?

6.         You just discover your boyfriend dead in your closet.  You come out into your room, an unseen being grabs you and you run (or are dragged by the being, don’t remember which it was and frankly don’t care) from the bedroom, down the stairs and out the front door (all conveniently recorded by the well placed cameras in the house).  Wow – that would be scarey wouldn’t it?  You’d be absolutely terrified…but some where a long the way, you managed to grab the hand held camera (or according to the "all knowings" at imdb, your cell phone) to record everything outside the house!  Really?  REALLY?  Something you can’t see has a hold of you and you’re first reaction is to grab the camera/cell phone?

7.         Whole lot happening at the end….but again, the movie is over just as it is getting started.  WHY????

The last question I can answer – oh yes, Part 5 is coming and it will answer all these questions in what is to be the final installment.  And CC and I will be there because we just can’t help ourselves – we just hold out hope for these movies.

The Good

The very best thing about this movie is that the cat doesn’t die.  It’s the only character in the entire film that you make any connection with and care about – cat lives, happy ending.

Oh Yes We Do....

We have a new look!  Remember I told you I was trying out some new looks and things would change around every once in a while....

Though I did love some of the templates I downloaded, they are available to everyone and I have seen the dog template that I was using on other sites.  Not that that matters...but I kind of wanted a little nitch for myself.  So I went back to a blogger template, made a few changes, and created my own Title Header in Publisher...and we are again (at least for a little while).

As always the sidebars are a work in progress and I'm pretty sure I'm missing a few movies from that list, I'm trying but it gets busy at times.

Well the cold is almost gone and I'm beginning to feel human again.  It's not easy being sick at my house, there are dogs that need walked several times when you are home with them.  Love them dearly, but there are times you just want to rest!  (Future home project:  fence yard).

Anyway, sickness threw my diet totally off.  Every time I think I'm back on track, something happens.  I really need to do this; I know I can do it - so I need to JUST DO IT!

My co-worker lost 4 lbs. her first week on Weight Watchers - WAY TO GO!  Another co-worker pm'd me and said she had started and also lost 4 lbs. her first week.  You can't help but be happy for these people and it just goes to show you that the program does work if you JUST DO IT!

Came across this quote on another blog (and it so makes sense):

"If you fail to plan; you plan to fail."

So let's plan those menus this week and get moving!!

Ho Hum.....

I’m not doing well weight loss wise, I’m just not “on plan”.

Half the battle with weight loss is having your mind in the right place.  I always tell everyone that – “If your mind is not there, you won’t get it done.”  And that’s so true…I wish I could get back the enthusiasm I had when I started Weight Watchers over 2 years ago.

And now, I just may have…

A co-worker from one of the other divisions (and who I went to training with back in August) has recently started Weight Watchers (she did it many moons ago and since it has been so long, it’s like starting fresh).  She’s not at the same center as I am, but she has that newbie excitement and wants to discuss things…and well it is starting to rub off.  And I can’t really have her coming into work announcing weight losses without my own now can I?

Fridays are the first of my week anyway…and though I was just skipping breakfast, after she left my office I pulled out one of my oatmeal packs and had that with a banana.  My old tired and true usual breakfast I had back when I started Weight Watchers.  And you know, it was pretty good!

I know where I have to make some changes:

Drink more water – I have been living off diet soda for a while now and I know that is not good.

Weigh and measure – over time you start just eyeballing those portions – they tend to continue to get bigger…so back to the right size.

Track – Probably every successful weight plan recommends keeping a food diary, I have been bad with that and considering I can do it with my computer and cell phone, there’s no excuse.

Weigh-in – Haven’t weighed in at the center in 2 weeks, oh I do it at home, but I need to do it there weekly for the accountability.

So who’s with me?  Whether you are in a rut, starting over, starting new – any plan you choose….let’s start together today!!

If you really do it, it really works!"

Cleaning Tip

Fortunately for me I have a self-cleaning oven or else the oven would never get clean.  Though the oven gets clean, the oven racks normally don't.  They don't fit the sink, they just don't come clean.

This weekend while the oven self-cleaned, I got online to see if there was an easy way to clean the racks.  And by gosh there was!! On One Good Thing By Jillee I found this:  An Almost Effortless Way To Clean Your Oven Racks.  Obviously you can click the link and it will show you what to do, but the short method put the racks in the bathtub with dishwashing liquid and (you'll never guess this) DRYER SHEETS.  Yep, you read that right - DRYER SHEETS.  Actually you don't even need to use the dishwashing liquid, but I did because Jillee did though I didn't use as much as she did.  I also only soaked them for 6 hours, but I'm not kidding when I tell you that I just wiped the grime right off of them.  Had to use a scrubby for a few tough spots - but hey it was effortless and they are all nice and clean again!

Check out Jillee's site as it is full of information!

Holey Moley - We Have Voles!!

We have voles at work...yep, you read that correctly - voles - with a "v" and not just one but an entire community - dozens!!

Still haven't a clue what I'm talking about right?  Well you know what a mole is right?  Those little critters that burrow into your landscape?  Well a vole is kind of like that except they look more like mice.

Both grassy areas in front of our building are loaded with them.  It's rather interesting.  They have all these holes and they've made trails leading from one hole to the next.  Looks like a Habitrail.  You can actually stand out front and watch them run from one hole to the next.  Most aren't even afraid of humans, you can actual see them quite close up.

This is a vole:

I'm going to take my camera in and see if I can get some photos of ours.

Roadside Attraction - South of the Border

If you ever travel the East Coast via I-95 then you've probably heard of or driven by South of the Border.  You really can't miss it, you'll see billboards for it for over a hundred miles!!  It's right at the North Carolina/South Carolina border.

When I was little we drove to Disney World and on the way back stopped at South of the Border.  I was in awe with the place.  It had EVERYTHING.  I remember being mad because my mother wouldn't buy me EVERYTHING!

I hadn't been there in years and years but on the way to Myrtle Beach we pass it.  One year Hubby and I decided to stop.  What a disappointment....  most of it was closed and in ruins.  I walked into the bathroom and refused to go further then the doorway - what filth.  Right outside the bathroom was a "dog area" which looked like no one had cleaned in over 10 years. was disappointing, especially since the highway signs had all been replaced.

Apparently between that year and this year, someone took over.  CC and I stopped on our way home and the place is much cleaner, painted, thriving with business...some things are still closed down but it looks as though someone decided to save this roadside attraction.

Some Photos:

Above is supposedly an actual shark, CC and I thought it looked plastic - but we're no experts-lol!!

So if you're heading down (or up) I-95...give this a look, it's a fun stop once again!
