Moving Forward....

I meant to mention yesterday that in that 1300 calories that My Fitness Pal has allotted me; that does include calories for fruits and veggies; where my point value is still showing fruit and the allowed veggies at 0 pts.

I am so enjoying this app!  This morning I bar scanned a Smart Ones pizza - it popped right up on the MFP database...this same pizza does not exist on the Weight Watcher database!!  Amazing isn't it???

Again, I'm not knocking Weight Watchers, but I find that the easier the tool - the easier it is for me!  I've loaded Mozilla Foxfire on both my home and work computers and downloaded the script to give me a WW point column.  Since those are the places I'm at the most - I can always access to view the point values.  It would be nice if the phone app could show that, but I won't go too crazy over that.  I am still inputting in the WW database as well; mostly because I'm paying for it.  I think I'll give them one more month of full pay; then I'm just going to monthly weigh-ins as a lifetimer.  CC and I can do other weekly weigh-ins together.

But I'm really doing well this week and will be excited to see my weight this week (or maybe I won't want to, but time will tell).

This & That

I walked the dogs tonight and realized it is warmer out now then it was when I walked them around 5:30.  I don't mind a chill in the air, but I do hate when it gets very cold and the high winds kick in.  That seems to be the weather these days - extremely cold with high winds or cool and sunny.  I'll take the cool and sunny.

I've been using My Fitness Pal for several days now and am very pleased.  I like that the bar code scanner actually scans quickly and the item is in the data base (the WW one is slow and most things aren't there).  I like I can hop on my computer and see the point value of what I am eating.  It can be an eye opening experience.

MFP is giving me 1300 calories a day; I've had a day or two a little over and a day or two a little under; for the most part though I'm around the 1300.  Those 1300 have been coming out between 29-33 points a day; more points then my allowed WW daily value of 26.  Since "the experts" say you should not eat under 1200 calories a day - I'm beginning to wonder if WW is not giving enough points; perhaps they would do better to increase the dailies and decrease the weeklies.  However, the true test will be Thursday when I weigh in; then we'll see which amount of points is working.

I've checked Spark People and they recommend I eat between 1200-1550 calories a day; Lose It gives me a daily calorie budget of 1438.  So they all are rather consistent in the calorie range.  So we will see.

My Fitness Pal

I recently took a look at the website My Fitness Pal.  This is free weight loss site for tracking food and exercise.  It's easy to use and also offers a mobile app.

While going through their community forums, I came across some posts regarding tracking weight watcher points with my fitness pal (MFP).  If you have the Mozilla Firefox web browser, there is an user script you can add that will add a column at MFP for WW pts.  Great, huh?

It actually is!  The script is old pts, but you just go in, edit 2 lines and TA-DA - you have the points plus.  (You can also get this script to work on Google Chrome, however, I cannot find where to edit the script so you can only use the old point system).  My fitbit also will sync with this site...making it doubly great! (FYI: script doesn't work with the mobile app).

There are some adjustments you need to watch for - those fruits will show point values (remember fruits are only 0 pts because WW tells you to count them that way); I worked around this by not choosing the fruit from the database; I add my own giving everything a zero value (though I do put the calories in - found that info on the database) and the fruit comes out at 0 pts.  MFP is designed to follow calories, so that's why I left that in there - will be nice to see how those points add up calorie wise.

Don't get me wrong, I am NOT giving up on WW.  I think WW is a great program and I would have no successful weight loss without them (I tried many other programs - WW worked); but I also know at some point and time I'll need to stop paying - it just gets expensive.  I'm hoping to get back to my goal and maintain it this time around!

That being said, there are many on the MFP boards that are doing WW also; but along with those are the ones that bash the program because they could never get it to work for them or that WW endorses unhealthy eating.  I'm here to say - Nothing could be further from the truth.

Weight Watchers is going to be what  you make out of it.  If you're not going to take the time to read through the program material (or sit through the starter sessions at meetings), WW will never work for you.  If you think 0 pts means eat all that you want - WW will never work for you.  If you have a bad leader - WW will never work for you.  If you're just going to complain about the price - WW will never work for you.  If you refuse to try new things or choose the healthy option over the unhealthy one - WW will never work for you.  You get the picture - get your mind there, the rest will follow.  But my biggest grip with the naysayers is "If you don't like WW - why are you on this thread?????"  I mean seriously, find your own thread!

But MFP is a great site - check it out!

Ho-Hum

So hubby opened the refrigerator for the first time and said:

"Great, you went to the store; I'm going to make a sandwich."

Hmmmmmm....... do men not pay attention to how things look????

CC finds the whole refrigerator thing funny.....she should be glad I'm not posting photos of HERS here-lol!

Anyway, I  managed a 2 oz. loss this past week; I'm finding my weigh-ins rather odd:  3 weigh-ins ago I had a 2 lb. gain - which was odd since I was pretty much on plan every day; the next week I had a 1.6 lb. loss - CC had taken me out to dinner for my birthday the night before and we ate buffet, can't figure out how I got a loss; this week was a 2 oz. loss.  I'll take all the losses I can get; I just wish I could figure out an eating pattern that will work.

Today I'm heading to lunch with two of my sisters and a cousin.  Should be very relaxing.

And tomorrow The Walking Dead returns - I'm so very excited!!

Ahhh...The Refrigerator

One of Weight Watchers "things" this month was to organize your refrigerator...put the healthy stuff in the front and the unhealthy behind things so you won't be tempted.

I didn't exactly do that..but it reminded me that my own refrigerator hadn't been cleaned out in quite a long time and there were probably many things way over the expiration dates.  I was over at One Good Thing By Jillee and she had a posting on cleaning and organizing your refrigerator.  I loved the idea of using storage bins to help with that - I never would of thought of that!  She got the idea from Goodbye House, Hello Home and I was very excited with that site as her refrigerator was exactly like mine with the exception that the door was on the opposite side.

I headed to Walmart to look for the bins; they didn't have all the sizes and they didn't have very many at all.  I then hopped over to The Dollar Tree to see what they had.  They had many many choices in various colors so I opted for some lime green and headed home to clean the refrigerator (hopefully one day the rest of the house will follow).

I won't bore you with the dirt and grime that collected in there; and if you haven't cleaned out your own in a while you'd be very surprised.  But here are my before and after shots:

I can't wait for hubby to open it for the first time!!
