50 Posts In a Row #8

I'm happy to say....much to my surprise - I had a 2.2 lb. weight loss at weigh-in - HURRAY!!!

Always good to see a loss....

And why we are on the Weight Watchers topic; I'd like to comment on some posts I've been seeing on their FaceBook page.

Quite a few are giving the hard luck story of wanting to lose weight on WW; but due to health issues, job loss, economy, and any other issues can't afford the fee...what can I do???

I'm hear to tell you - WW isn't going to jump in and give you a free membership, they are a business out to make money; nor are paying members going to give you the info (why should we pay for it and you get it free?); however if you do have a job, check to see if they may offer some incentive for a weight loss program and / or check to see if your insurance company will cover it.  Neither of those available? There are many FREE weight loss programs available online that many are successful with - just do a Google search.  Still really want WW?  Do a Google search, you'd be surprised of the information out there.

Another are people also wanting to do WW; but don't like the fact of the sodium in the package meals when their own home cooking is healthier.  This is a very common mistake - Weight Watchers is not Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem, nor any other weight loss program that requires you to buy pre-packaged meals, shakes, supplements, etc..  Yes, WW does have some pre-packaged snacks, smoothies and such available; but you don't "have to " use them - you can cook your own meals and never touch a packaged one.

So I'll come down off my soapbox now....

50 Posts In a Row #6

Okay, so let's talk "The Walking Dead"....

I am LOVING The Walking Dead this season.  Well, okay - I love it every season; but I spend time on boards and hear more griping and complaining than necessary....so for the nay-sayers:

The show is about survivors not the walkers (aka zombies).  So every episode does not have to be about a huge walker attack.  In reality - mankind is the biggest threat.

Oh what?  The show isn't real enough for you?  HELLO - zombies are not real; the show is based on a COMIC BOOK....it doesn't have to be real.  Yes, I often yell at the screen too - why would they do that?  It's easy to be critical when you're not living the situation.

There was actually someone that complained that nothing happens on the show, it's just them moving place to place and fighting walkers.  Hmmmmm......and what do you think the show should be about???
Nothing happens?  Are we watching the same show???

Anyone I've ever told to watch this show ends up hooked.  Even people who normally wouldn't watch this type of show.  Watch it to be entertained...if you want real life - go out and live it!!

I am not one of those - if Daryl dies I'm never watching again.  Sorry...I like him too; but I'd still watch.  I certainly don't base a whole show on ONE character!!

It's Recipe Day!!!


This is one I picked up on FaceBook and made the other week.  Not really Weight Watcher friendly but it was very very good:

CROCK POT CHICKEN & DUMPLINGS

  • 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
  • 2 Tbsp. Butter
  • 2 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 2 (10 ounce) pkgs, refrigerated biscuit dough, torn into pieces

(I didn't use the onion and only used 1-10 oz biscuit dough)

  1. 1. Place the chicken, butter, soup, and onion in a slow cooker, and fill with enough water to cover.
  2. 2. Cover, and cook for 5 to 6 hours on High. About 30 minutes before serving, place the torn biscuit dough in the slow cooker. Cook until the dough is cooked through.

Well my self weigh-in indicates I gained back that .4 I lost - lol!!  Oh well, that's the weekend for ya, I guess it could of been worse.

My sister-in-law had her second surgery last night and now we're just at a waiting game.  But things seem to be moving in a positive way.

Work's been blah....we have an audit coming up next month and I'm trying to get ready for that.

Other than that, not much going on.....

Unfortunately, this isn't a good post.

My sister-in-law is in the hospital suffering from a ruptured aorta in the abdominal cavity.  She had to have emergency surgery where they put a stint in; but then had internal bleeding and they had to go back in.  Her body temperature was too low for the second surgery, so they have her heavily sedated and in ICU until she can have surgery which hopefully will be tomorrow.

Prayers please.

50 Posts In A Row - #1

Well last night I had a .4 loss.  That is POINT 4 and not 4 lbs.  Though not a huge loss, I'll take a loss anyway I can get it and since I've been off plan for way too long now, it was surprising!

Time to get my butt back in gear.  Oh, I know what needs to be done...but it for some reason is so hard getting my mind in the right place this time around.

Diet And Upcoming "50" Posts

I'm so very very good at giving advice on Weight Watchers to anyone that asks - in person or online.  I love to explain the program to people because I really think it's a good one.  But I was thinking today at how very bad I am on following the program this time around.

So I've decided I need to do better - I need to get back in gear - I need to get this regained weight back off.

I also need to get my "50" themed posts back in gear!  So tomorrow is the first of "50 Posts In A Row".  The posts will consist of anything of my choosing and I'm going to try and "theme" the days if at all possible....

Fridays will be the Weight Watchers update since it's the start of my week and the day after weigh-in.

Saturdays will be Anything Goes - after all Saturdays are for relaxing.

Sundays will be Faith related.

Mondays will be a Weekend Update to include another weigh-in.

Tuesdays will be a Recipe.

Wednesday will a TV or Movie review.

Thursdays will be a Photo day.

We'll see how it goes!

It's Been A Snowy Kind of Day.....

Yep that big storm came in about 7:30 last night, stopped a little this afternoon, and started again this evening:




Yeah, it isn't pretty.

I've completed 4 dog walks and 3 shovelings.....good for exercise, but boy is it tiring.  The one fortunate thing was that work closed so I didn't have to go in nor use any of my vacation/personal time to cover it - they'll pay us for not being there - HURRAY!!

Hubby's work closed also; so we stayed home and watched the series "The Following" on Netflix.  It's pretty good, but they make the cops/agents look so stupid in these shows - I mean, really???  The mistakes they make are so over the top, obvious and simple.  We just couldn't continue on with season 2 - we got burned out.

It would be nice to have another work closing tomorrow which would give us an extra long holiday weekend...but I really have my doubts about that.

Due to snow, Weight Watchers was a no go...but I weighed myself anyway and was down two-tenths - not a lot but at least it is in the right direction.

Well Alrighty Then....

I had a significant gain this week.  SIGNIFICANT!

I know I was expecting a gain due to too much 50th birthday celebration; but even after the parties I totally stayed off plan.  And it showed hugely at my weigh-in.  I gained 3.6 lbs.  Back to square one.

And that's how my WW leader chose to look at it.  She told me to forget it, get back on track and we are going to say that that was my very first time at WW.  Now we know it is not...but when you gain significantly, you are back at step 1.

So I'm trying to be very very good this week.

Yesterday my week started and it consisted of:

WW Smoothie
Bagel Thin with Deli Turkey, RF Cheese and apple
Carrots
Chicken Breast & Leg
Lima Beans
Pop Corn

I know that doesn't look like a lot but it actually is.  For the Smoothie I use the recipes over at Brooke Not On A Diet.  She lists I believe 4-5 recipes at the link, the Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana one is my favorite (I also make this without the PB) and the Blueberry Muffin one is excellent too!  I can pack a lot of the Good Health Guidelines, that WW recommends you get each day, into one smoothie.  And it does keep me full all morning long.  The following will pretty much work with ALL the WW smoothie mixes (or your own protein powder of choice) - this is the basic to start:

Smoothie/Protein Powder
1 cup skim milk (or regular milk, RF milk, soy milk, almond milk, etc..)
1 cup water (or you could make this another cup of your milk choice)
2 tsp. canola oil
1 -2 cups of raw baby spinach (trust me you'll never taste this)
1 banana
Ice

That's your basic - will work with ALL WW smoothie flavors.  Sometimes I'll add PB2 (works well with the Chocolate, Vanilla and Hazelnut Smoothie packs); sometimes I'll also throw in a 1/4 cup of blueberries.  Just watch your point values of what you are adding and don't go into fruit overload; because you don't have to count points for fruit-people tend to that and especially with smoothies because you can pack more into it then if you were eating single pieces of individual fruit.   So if you aren't going to sit down and eat 4-5 pieces of fruit in one sitting; don't put that many in your smoothie!

And yesterday I had LIMAS - I love lima beans but totally have forgotten about them....so I'm going to get some frozen ones to have on hand.

This morning's breakfast is Baked Oatmeal!  I came across baked oatmeal at Spunky Suzi and absolutely love it!  Another recipe that is very adaptable to your tastes.

Somehow, Someway.....

I had a 1.2 lb. loss last week.  We even weighed in 2 days early.

I have no idea how that happened, but will take it!!

This week, I'm not too sure of.  The weekend involved lots of food (mostly not good), alcohol and plain old laziness.

I've decided to weigh myself tonight to see where I'm at.  Hopefully, it won't be pounds up!

And The Birthday Continued....

My one niece was rather insistent that we celebrate my birthday drinking style (yeah, she tends to forget that I'm old, lol); none-the-less we headed out to Barefoot Bernies for some fun last night.

We started at Bernies for dinner and drinks and were joined by CC, some relatives, her friends and some school friends of mine.  We then travelled over to Cancun Cantina (which is in the same building) for some drinks and music.

The place was hopping and the band was AWESOME - if you ever get the chance to hear The Amish Outlaws - make sure you do!!  They are great and were lots of fun.

So My Birthday Came & Went

My 50th birthday is now over and I'm ready to spend my year of being 50!

I got up that morning, walked the dogs and went to work (exciting right?).  Hubby was working late; so CC was taking me to dinner that evening.  I'm not at work 15 minutes when CC calls, says she's ill and won't be making it tonight.  That's fine...I decided to spend the evening with the dogs, Netflix and a bottle of Asti.
When hubby texted to see how my day was, I told him the change in plans for the evening and he opted not to work that evening and take me to dinner.

As the work day wore on, I was rather disappointed that the cupcakes that normally show up on birthdays, didn't.  Hmmmmmm...... but after a terrible lunch (stale wheat bread Locust Point) that ended up in the trash these arrived from hubby:

The big excitement came later in the day, when none other than David Morrissey himself (yep, THE GOVERNOR from The Walking Dead) sent me a tweet on twitter:



WOW!!!

Hubby came home early and we went to dinner at Hempen Hill.  But, it was more than dinner - it was a Surprise Party!! Yep - CC wasn't sick after all!











Thanks to Hubby, CC and my sister Judy for planning things out.  And to my nieces-Kelly & Jamie, Kelly's man Chris, my brother-in-law Randy, my parents, my step daughter Lauren and the three grandboys plus baby Benny and my co-worker Mary for taking the time to help me celebrate!
